Audio description: Paralympic Games

For the first time ever live audio description will be provided for all sporting events in the Paralympic Games. This commentary will describe everything happening, to bring the events to life for blind and partially sighted people.

The Opening Ceremony of the Paralympic Games on Wednesday 29 August will have AD. To receive the AD you will need to watch it on the TV channel 'More4':

  • Freeview: channel 14
  • Sky: channel 138
  • Virgin: channel 147
  • Freesat: channel 124
  • The estimated start time is 9pm, but please check TV listings for exact timings.

    The AD commentary will also be available online on the Channel 4 website.

    Channel 4 is the official broadcaster for the Paralympic Games, which start on 29th August and finish on 9th September. Channel 4 will be providing an inclusive commentary for the all of the sporting events on Channel 4 and More 4 every day.

    Audio Description in sport

    AD in sport gives the listener a clear and descriptive commentary that transforms the enjoyment of a live sporting event. The commentary allows blind and partially sighted people to follow every bit of the action through radio receivers and headsets and completes the picture with description of the sporting action, the colours, the crowd, the officials, the celebrations and all the detail that brings a sporting event to life.
